BT Sports Partners with Gfinity for U.K. Esports TV Shows

Streaming platform BT Sports has partnered with leading international esports business Gfinity to create content that will help fill programming schedules during the Coronavirus-enforced lockdown in the UK.

They plan to deliver celebrity-led esports entertainment shows, featuring sports celebrities such as Robbie Savage, Joe Cole, Chelcee Grimes, and Ugo Monye. One entertainment show that has been announced, is the FIFA Challenge.

The FIFA Challenge will see four different teams, led by the four respective sports celebrities, pit against each other in weekly matches, culminating in a Grand Final on the 5th of June. The tournament will be contested through EA Sports’ FIFA 20 video game.

The suspension of sport has provided a boost for the esports business, giving it a chance to enter into the wider mainstream, as it crosses sectors such as real sports, the fashion industry, and more.

Gfinity and BT Sports see their partnership extend beyond the Corona virus crisis, and will continue to devise new concepts in the esports space after the crisis ends.
