Electronic Arts has revealed the major championship plans for EA Sports FC, as they have announced that the FC Pro World Championship will take place this July in Berlin, Germany.
The tournament will be held in Berlin’s Uber Eats Music Hall between July 10-13 (the Euro finals are on July 14), and will see qualified competitors fighting over a slice of a $1 million prize pool. The event will feature a live audience on July 12-13.
With its rebranding into EA Sports FC (EAFC), the former FIFA franchise has introduced the new esports ecosystem called EA Sports FC Pro. The global circuit consists of a series of one-versus-one tournaments across nine regions.
The top 20 ranked players from the regional FC Pro Leagues will compete in a Play-In event on July 10 to earn one of eight remaining slots in the 32-player three-day global finals tournament (where 24 players have already secured their spots through previous qualifiers).
The selection of Germany as the destination for the first EAFC World Championship was most likely due to the country’s profound football history and fandom, facilitating the uptake of football simulation among German gaming fans and clubs.
Veteran football clubs, such as FC Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, have EAFC teams through the WOW Virtual Bundesliga, while German competitors have shown success across international events.
