New World Record Set for Most Expensive Vintage Video Game Sold

A 1985 edition of the video game cartridge of Super Mario Bros. sold for USD 114,000 on Friday the 10th of July. This auction set a new world record for the most expensive video game ever sold at a public auction auction.

The Super Mario Bros video game was sealed for 35 years, and was sold at an auction held by Heritage Auctions, specializing in old-fashion comics and original comic art. It took 29 bids before the final sale price was announced, pushing this bid into pop culture history.

The previous record for the most expensive video game ever sold at an auction, was a 1987 sealed copy of Mega Man, which was sold for USD 75,000, also by Heritage Auctions, in November 2019.
