Singapore is set to host the inaugural 2021 Global Esports Games at the award-winning Resorts World Sentosa between the 17th and the 19th of December 2021. The games will see esports teams from more than 80 countries and territories compete for pride and glory.
The Global Esports Games (GEG) is the flagship event of the Global Esports Federation. More than 400 international esports athletes will qualify and compete in Singapore, representing their respective countries and territories in the multi-titled world championship.
The first three editions of the Global Esports Games are to take place in Singapore, Istanbul and Riyadh, in that order and starting from this year. Set to be held annually in December, it is promised that the Games will bring together esports, virtual sport, music and entertainment.
GEG is comprised of 3 stages:
- Stage 1: GEG National / Territory Selection
- Stage 2: GEG Regional Qualifier Tournaments
- Stage 3: GEG World Finals Singapore
The inaugural event will feature eight teams in DOTA 2 across two categories, as well as 32 players for Street Fighter V: Champion Edition and eFootball 2022 at the Resorts World Sentosa.
GEF recently appointed Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Sultan Al Saud as its Vice President. As newly appointed Vice President, Prince Faisal aims to involve industries that have little or no relation to esports and what it has to offer. Alongside his new role, Prince Faisal will continue to serve as President of the Saudi Esports Federation and the Arab Esports Federation.
This year has proven to be a fruitful period for the GEF. The federation has secured a deal with blockchain network Flare Networks alongside joining the Sports for Climate Action initiative in a bid to reduce the climate impact esports has on the world.
