It has been announced that Hangzhou Downtown Venue has become the official competition place for the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games esports events.

Construction on the venue started in September 2020 and is expected to be completed half a month ahead of schedule. In addition, the pile foundations have been completed, and the basement build is 60% finished. The 2022 Asian Games are scheduled to run from the 10th to the 25th of September.

The whole venue will have a 4,087 seat capacity, spanning 80 000 square metres.

Esports, alongside break dancing, were approved to join the 19th Hangzhou Asian Games as medal sports by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) at the end of 2020. Esports will join “intellectual titles” for the event alongside chess, and will feature six esports titles. Official game titles have not yet been disclosed.
