The Wuhan government has announced that the city will play hosts to the League of Legends World Championship 2021 Finals.
The government also announced a USD 1 billion investment plan to develop the esports infrastructure in the region.
China has a good track record in terms of major LAN events. Despite the ongoing pandemic situation, Shanghai hosted the League of Legends World Championship 2020 successfully on LAN, when every other event was cancelled or deferred.
Interestingly, as the virus keeps spreading in other regions of the world, China seems to have been able to control the spread and aid the return of normal life, with Wuhan known as the place of virus outbreak.
There are several esports LAN events scheduled for 2021 and it will be interesting to see if everyone can pull it off as successfully as China managed with the League of Legends World Championship in 2020.
