Electronic Arts and DICE have officially revealed Battlefield 2042, the latest installment in the iconic multiplayer shooter series that is Battlefield.
Battlefield 2042 will be released on the 22nd of October for current and next-gen consoles, as well as for PC. The official gameplay reveal is set for the 13th of June, which happens to be during Microsoft’s E3 presentation.
Battlefield 2042 is set to be the biggest Battlefield game in scope. The game will have 7 large-scale maps on launch, with each map supporting upto 128 players (64vs64) and every map will have a “unique experience based on the natural environment” according to the game’s official description.
Battlefield 2042 has seemingly dropped its class-based combat in favor of a new “Specialist” system which means every Specialist will have their own perks and abilities which will be inspired by the classic class system, making this a hero-based Battlefield game, a first for the series. Players can utilize grappling hooks, robotic combat dogs, and wingsuits and each of these abilities are unique to specific Specialists.
