The British Esports Association is the national body for esports in the UK, and they have partnered with Pearson Education, the world’s learning company, to launch an international level 3 qualification and additional resources in esports.
This qualification is a giant step forward in supporting the creation of long-term careers within the global esports community. Institutions around the world will now be able to offer the new level 3 qualifications to overseas learners from September 2020.
The emphasis on this collaboration lies on giving learners a chance to develop a wide range of transferable skills and knowledge that can be applied to other careers and sectors, including Steam-based careers and online. This is especially valuable since the esports industry has grown tremendously in the last few years, and future jobs within the industry are likely to continually change.
It is interesting to see universities and schools incorporate esports into curriculums, and how esports have changed in the way it is regarded academically. As more universities across the world have incorporated esports BA’s and MA’s, we shall keep our eyes open to what these degrees will do for the esports industry in the coming years.
